Spiralling away

Spiral notebooks whisper to me about the promise of a new term at school, new things to learn, new things to write. With a spiral pad, with a pen clipped inside the coil, I’m ready to take on the world.

These books look much-loved. I’ve got spiral books I’ve had since the first days at uni, earnestly scribbled notes, underlined titles, highlighted definitions.
I keep them out of sheer sentimentality, but they’ve been with me for a long time, those old friends.

I feel for the author of this picture. If you had this many colour pens, wouldn’t you feel a compulsive need to write something - anything! - with them?
Also: black paper. How cool is that?

Taking great pictures like this one should be easy, but it isn’t. I couldn’t do it. I’d love to go and photograph my vast collection of pens, pads, pencils, cases and folders, and make them look this tasteful and romantic…

I didn’t know how much I was missing in my life until I saw the picture of this spiral pad.

These unbearably cute little books are made by the Japanese company “Mind Wave”, whose kawaii products are apparently all the rage among young girls in Japan. (I swear, just looking at it makes me feel young and carefree.)
I found a few ‘Mind Wave’ notebooks online at ShopKawaii, but not this particular one.
I covet it.

I’m not crafty enough to make my own stationery porn, but I silently covet other people’s skills. Look, this has separate pockets for the main pad, little notepadlet, and a pencil pocket. Aaah.
